Client having Bowen Technique

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy – £55.00

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy and rather than looking at past traumas and events it looks at current problems and situations.

A Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy session is very much a two way street.  As a therapist it is my role to find out what stumbling blocks or obstacles you may have towards achieving your goal.     We work together – in fact as a client it is pretty much you that does all the work – I am just there to guide you.   We can set goals, challenge beliefs, agree on ways to move forward and with that plan of action then use hypnotherapy to help you visualise and achieve your end goal.

So why combine hypnotherapy and CBT?

When you add hypnotherapy into this mix and we enter a ‘daydreaming’ state, we are able to accept beneficial directions or suggestions while our conscious thoughts are suspended. So although hypnosis is not a requirement of the therapy it can influence the effectiveness of the process.

The beauty of CBH is that is is evidence based – there is so much research behind the techniques that have proven them to work.  It is not just a case of reading a few hypnotherapy scripts.  I have an arsenal of strategies to help you achieve your goal – there is no ‘one size fits all’ so each session is tailored specifically to you and your needs.

We work together to help you cope better with stress and anxiety.   The tools I use can include relaxation techniques, meditation, even ‘experiments’ where you can use hypnotherapy – and many other tools to help you visualise, practice or trial different scenarios in a safe and nurturing environment.

Stress and Anxiety

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is an amazing modality for helping with stress and anxiety.  You can change the way you think, feel and behave in a very short time.

Stress and anxiety respond really well and covers all areas that cause stress and anxiety such as social anxiety, low self-esteem, insomnia, phobias, assertiveness – or lack of assertiveness, solving problems and much more……!

You may find that you have a low mood or are feeling mildly depressed – Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy can also help with this!

Depression

Depression is more than just those feelings of being fed up, sad or unhappy.  Depression can be separated into sub clinical (without the need for medication) or clinical (where anti depressants have been prescribed).  CBT/Hypnotherapy offers a good alternative to taking anti depressants helping you learn the tools to overcome that depressive state in your own terms and picking up helpful ‘techniques’ to assist you on the way.

Fears and Phobias

Fears and phobias – whether it be of
Nature Environments such as heights, water, the dark;
Fears relating to situations such as flying, driving, bridges, tunnels, public speaking etc;
Animal phobias – snakes, spiders tend to be the most common but I’ve dealt with fears of cows, frogs and dogs too Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy can help.

Having a phobia can cause feelings of fear and can start as early as childhood – growing and becoming more aggravated once reaching adulthood.
Fears can stop people moving on – clients can develop coping strategies to avoid certain situations that could be fearful to them. Using hypnotherapy and CBT we can work together to develop coping strategies to deal with the phobias and fears allowing you to get your life back!

Exam Nerves

Exams are always a time of stress – and this doesn’t just apply to teenagers.  Wherever you are in your life, the thought of exams can cause the most calmest of people to become anxious and stressed.  On the premise that it is impossible to be anxious and relaxed at the same time during our sessions together  we work a lot with relaxation techniques, self esteem, visualisation techniques and self efficacy – you have to believe you can achieve which is where hypnotherapy comes in!!

Pain Relief

Did you know that hypnotherapy is very successful in dealing with pain??  It can help manage pain – this can be chronic pain, pain caused by surgery and back pain.  There are some fabulous hypnotherapy techniques to help with this including distraction and suggestions of numbness – all of which you can use yourself (I’ll provide you with a recording) at home to help you cope better. Some physical symptoms can be caused by stress.  These are called psychosomatic conditions as they aren’t actually caused by a physical issue – stress and anxiety can cause pain in the body.  CBH can help you develop your own symptom control techniques and help you learn to cope more effectively.

Performance

CBH can help with personal development and is a wonderful tool to enhance public speaking, sports performance, help you study and offer support in exam times or with tests.

In essence with all the techniques you will learn, YOU become your own therapist and can use the strategies learnt in most of your everyday situations

Sleep

Everyone needs a good night’s sleep to be able to function well in our daily lives. Insomnia, or disturbed sleep can leave you fatigued, stressed, frustrated, ill and with weight issues.

There is a lot of work relating to sleep and insomnia and the use of hypnotherapy to help.  Treatment of sleep issues can involve keep a sleep diary, meditation, hypnosis and looking at the underlying causes.

Confidence & Self Esteem

We have all been there at some point I’m sure!  Lacking in confidence, feeling self conscious, under valued, low self esteem.  These feelings are classed as limiting beliefs and can affect your whole life, not allowing you to move forward with your life.  Using the power of CBT to look at changing those beliefs and hypnotherapy to help you succeed in changing those beliefs is an awesome combination.

Bad Habits – such as nail biting

Cognitive Behavioural hypnotherapy is a wonderful way to helping you let go of bad habits such as nail biting.  The approach I use involves repetition, diary keeping, relaxation tension release breathing and hypnotherapy.  Just as you can learn a habit you can unlearn it so using some fantastic tools we can unravel the emotional aspects of what is keeping the habits going and use alternative strategies to recalibrate your brain to accept new and more positive habits!

Is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy for you?

CBH focuses on your capacity to change yourself, changing how you think, feel and behave. The sessions don’t address outside problems or family issues which can impact on a person’s health and wellbeing. Therefore, to benefit from cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy, it’s essential that you commit to the process, I can advise and treat you but needs your full co-operation. – you ARE your own therapist!!

I came across Julie on Facebook – she was looking for help as a case study for cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy. I have been suffering from severe stress, and lack of direction for a while and asked Julie if this would be something she could help with – luckily it was. She only needed me for three sessions as part of the training but has kindly continued to help. The treatment itself is amazing – I always steered away from anything like hypnosis as I was really unsure about it but Julie put my mind at ease. Although there was some hypnotherapy in the treatments it was mostly the use of cognitive therapy and behavioural therapy, some fab relaxation techniques and Julie’s reassurance and guiding hand. It really is the most tailor made treatment I have encountered. Julie’s calm demeanour and guiding questions led me to the reasons why I have been feeling so anxious – then using some amazingly effective techniques we (and I say we as it is a collaborative process – Julie didn’t push me towards doing anything that I felt uncomfortable doing – but equally her thorough questioning enabled me to really see where the problems were) created a treatment plan that works! I felt really comfortable talking to her – I didn’t feel judged at all and I have probably been the most honest with myself than I have been for a long long time. We have had about 5 or 6 treatments how and I can honestly say I am a changed person. My friends and family have all noticed the difference. I feel more confident, calm and have an amazing kit of techniques that I can use for the future. I would have no problem recommending Julie to family and friends and have done so. Good luck Julie I know you will make the most fantastic therapist.

Sandra

As a sufferer of social anxiety Julie offered to help – she is training at the moment so very kindly treated me for free. What can I say – aside from the absolute faith I have in Julie to help she outdid herself. She did some hypnosis on me – which I had never had before and was really sceptical but she fully explained the process so I understood fully what to expect (which helped a lot). I came out feel self assured, relaxed and confident. I had this treatment a few weeks ago and wanted to wait to see if it had helped – but yes it has. My friends have noticed the changes in me – I feel happy to go out – even to new places which I used to avoid before as I used to get severe anxiety and panic attacks. She has changed my life and I cannot thank her enough. You’re a star.
